Building Solutions for Immediate Impact
Legacy carbon-offset programs, though, discourage thousands of landowners from growing more carbon-rich forests. The barriers for entry of legacy programs sideline smaller landowners (and their 200 million forest acres), and pose a major challenge to large-scale climate action. In fact, it might be the top challenge to building a comprehensive forest carbon strategy in the US.
Until now.

The barriers for entry of legacy programs sideline smaller landowners (and their 200 million forest acres), and pose a major challenge to large-scale climate action. Until now.
Zack and co-founder Max Nova imagined a market alternative to both the timber industry and legacy carbon projects, which can cost a landowner up to $200,000 to participate. The big hairy goal? A carbon exchange built on reliable data – open to families like those Zack grew up with in southeastern Alabama.
A laser focus on baselines using economics, technology, and data to establish an understanding of what would have happened without the marketplace incentive.
NCX does this at scales both large and small – large scale climate, community, and wildlife habitat impact across millions of acres is supported by small, precision measurements of every tree on every acre, for every landowner, every year.
Together we can unlock the full carbon potential of American forests by enabling every landowner to be part of the climate solution.
“The world needs more innovations to bend the arc of emissions toward net zero and beyond,” Zack says. “At NCX, we help forests and communities thrive by democratizing the benefits of carbon-removing incentives. But we can’t do it alone. Join us today to work for positive climate change and make a lasting difference for the future of our planet.”
Shaping the Future of Forest Carbon with Microsoft AI
Leadership Team

Zack Parisa is the co-founder and CEO of NCX. Over the last decade, he has developed and pioneered precision forestry tools that are revolutionizing the way that forests can be measured, valued, and managed. Using satellites, cloud computing, and machine learning, NCX worked with Microsoft to create “Basemap,” the first high-resolution forest inventory of the United States. It is now using this data to build new markets for forest values beyond timber, such as carbon, wildlife habitat, and fire risk. Zack is a forester and biometrician by training. He earned an MFS from Yale University, and a BS in forestry from Mississippi State University.

Max Nova co-founded NCX over a decade ago. He built many of the Natural Capital Exchange’s core technical systems that power the largest forest carbon projects in the US. Now Max serves as the COO of NCX and helps connect American forest owners with net-zero pioneers like Microsoft. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Max earned a degree in computer science from Yale.

Restored Property Becomes Part of the Climate Solution
During the early 1900s, immigrants from around the world came to Pittsburgh to work in the area’s booming coal mines and steel mills in the Monongahela River valley. This led to great industrial development, which simultaneously brought economic prosperity and environmental decline.
