Storms, diseases, and timber theft can destroy the value of your forest quickly and unexpectedly. A slow response can turn a small problem into a big one, as vulnerable and damaged forests can attract pests like the southern pine beetle.
Today, we’re excited to introduce Loss Detection so that you can take swift action to preserve your forest’s value and health when disaster strikes. Using satellite imagery, NCX conducts a “weekly checkup” on your land and alerts you about any major or minor tree loss.
Loss Detection is automatically turned on for all NCX Members. You’ll see a detailed Loss Detection map on your NCX dashboard, highlighting any tree loss, the number of affected acres, and the detection date. Any time that NCX detects significant tree loss, you’ll receive an email alert linking you to your map on the dashboard. You can explore the disturbance and decide how to proceed. See “Natural Disaster Resources for Forest Owners” to learn more about how your NCX membership can help you respond to loss events.
If you’re exploring as a non-member, you’ll notice a “Loss Detection” tab on your map. You can upgrade at any time to unlock full access and make the most of this feature.
