The IEEE Spectrum magazine just profiled SilviaTerra’s Basemap project.  The article discusses how SilviaTerra’s team of forest biometricians used machine learning techniques to analyze terabytes of satellite imagery on Microsoft Azure to create the first ever high-resolution forest inventory of the continental US.  We discuss some of the technical challenges of creating Basemap, as well as our origin story and how we partnered with Microsoft AI for Earth to make this possible.
